Virgil van Dijk speaking via BT Sport said that he told Adrian before the penalty shootout against Europa League winners Chelsea that he could be the hero.
“I’m very glad and very happy that Adrian saved the last one,” van Dijk told BT Sport.
“He should enjoy himself. I told him before the penalties ‘you can be the hero tonight, so do it’. He did it, and I’m really happy for him and for the club as fine.”
Adrian earlier gave away a penalty that allowed the London club Chelsea to equalise and while footage from the game shows that the Nigerian Blood Tammy Abraham dived, the Spaniard exonerated himself with his save on the Chelsea striker from the final penalty in the shootout.
Liverpool will be without Alisson Becker for at least in few coming weeks and Adrian’s heroics in the Super Cup finals, played at Istanbul show that the Spaniard will be a decent stand-in for his Brazilian colleague.
English Premier League club, Southampton will be the Reds’ next test as they travel to the South Coast to face Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side in the second Premier League game of the season.
Hope Adrian will continue his awesomeness, as the team clash this weekend.
